On a trip to London, I disembarked from my train at Waterloo, and walked by the London Eye. I had been on the Eye once before, about twelve years ago, prebooked, and had enjoyed the experience although the weather was a bit cloudy. Unlike this time when the sun was shining in a clear blue sky. And so on the spur of the moment I decided I should see London from on high in all its glory. But the queue was long and I had places to go and so I paid extra for a fast track ticket. Pricey, but worth it for the much quicker access. The Eye travels so slowly (26cm per second since you ask) that it doesn t stop to let passengers on and off. The pods are a good size and they don t overfill them, so you can move about a bit round the perimeter to get different views. And, wow, are those views stunning. On such a clear day, I could see many recognisable landmarks, although I didn t manage to make out Windsor Castle 40km away, as is claimed. But that could be a function of my aged eyes.
