Robert in Boulder is a rock star!

I needed a new pair of ski boots to replace my old, tired pair. After reading reviews online and checking to see which retailers carried the boots that seemed most likely to fit me, I went into Epic Mountain Gear in Boulder. The boot sales person/fitter , Robert, was AMAZING as are the new boots and the industry's thinking on boot configurations and adjustments. Here's the good news all around:
1 - The industry has finally figured out that they need to make boots of all lasts/volumes for all ability levels. So, you can get the boot that fits your anatomy in a boot for a novice all the way up to racer level.
2 - Boot fitting theory no longer pushes skiers into boots that are multiple sizes too small (as was suggested to me in this store a few years ago by a different fitter) They now suggest your toes have a bit of room (just enough to be comfortable which makes sense) and see value in having your foot in a boot that doesn't squeeze so tight side to side or over the top that it hurts even when it's unbuckled.
3 - Fitters like Robert now have even more tools at their disposal to adjust the stock boot. They can work or replace the insoles, heat and adjust very specific areas of the shell or liners or change larger areas as needed.
After more than 50 years of skiing and wrestling with boots on my unique foot anatomy, this experience has been delightful - the best I've ever had.
I highly recommend these folks.
