I live not a half mile from Swansons and have gone there on and off for the last 15 years. I initially was attracted by their selection especially compared with the mundane offerings of major box stores. I bought a number of plantings for my landscape that I thought were unique and out of the mainstream paying a premium price for them. In the end I was disappointed as their survival rate was rather grim, about 30% and this was with good care. The stuff I bought at Lowe's and Home Depot did far better, I chanced several more purchases at Swansons but it seemed that every time I went there the prices increased. I went last weekend on Fathers Day, the nursery is certainly impressive with all of the greenhouse additions and green house roofs. Displays are beyond gorgeous. I was shopping for some rose bushes.

One in particular I had on my wish list they had but the price was $75.00, for a rose bush, not a money tree. I had priced it online with Heirloom Roses in Oregon $41.00 and free shipping. I have ordered from Heirloom previously and have had great success as their roses are grown from root stock not grafted. Few if any of us have yards with a greenhouse cover, I wonder how well plants raised in an idyllic environment work in our natural settings, wind, rain and cold. Never the less Swanson's is just plain too pricey for this average Joe.
