Wonderful historic abbey. Kindly old gentleman surprised us with a recounting of one of the many tales of the abbey; my son listened enthralled at the tale of how the illiterate monk William Birde got his name engraved on a column so he could read it. He also showed us the secret "grotesque" face that you can only see in a polished plaque. Entrance is free but a donation is welcome.
