Disappointing Update: Proper Realty eventually refunded only 10% of our $2575 fee back in December (I thought it would be fair for them to refund 50% of it). I have texts from the manager where he later agrees that this is not enough, and says he will do more after the first of the year. It is now the end of May and I can't get him to communicate with me. I'd take them to court if it was not such a time intensive process.
Don't do business with Proper Realty. They are not to be trusted. Our agent was awful, and management neglected to follow through on promises to make things right.
1) Our agent no showed us. He told us that we had the wrong day. We had actually confirmed the day with him via text.
2) Our agent told us the wrong address for the apartment.
3) Our agent had the wrong price for parking. This mistake is costing us $25 more per month than expected.
4) Our agent did not mention that it was a 14 month lease until we were about to sign it. He said that it could not be changed.
5) Our agent made arithmetic mistakes on the lease.
6) Our agent kept telling us that he would send us a copy of the signed lease. This happened about 5 times in the span of about a month and a half. We were worried that we would have to fly back to Boston look at places again.
7) Our agent created awkward situations with our landlord after we moved in.
After moving in, I met with management at Proper Realty. They were actually amused at just how bad our experience had been. They complimented me on being calm and patient. I said that maybe refunding half of the fee back would be fair. They said that we would be compensated financially within a week or two since it seemed unfair that we paid a $2575 fee for this experience. This was months ago. They never made things right, and have not returned the emails and phone messages that I have left for them.
