We had our child at Monmouth Medical Center beacus...

We had our child at Monmouth Medical Center beacuse it and the Drs in it were covered under our insuance. The L&D department was wonderful medically, except for one major problem.

Pediatrix Medical Group, who is somehow affiliated and co-located with the hospital, tested our child's hearing the day after she was born. They did not inform us that despite their affiliation with the hospital, that they were not covered under our insurance unlike everyone else at the hospital. The Dr and nurses did not tell us any of this either. It was treated as just another one of the dozens of routine test for the baby done by the hospital staff.

They are now coming after me for almost $3,000 for a test that I thought was at the direction of our doctors and/or nurses. I blame Pediatrix, the person who came around and collected our insurance information, and the patient advocate (if any) in L&D for not looking out for sleep deprived parents with a newborn in the PICU.

The "Out-of-network Consumer Protection, Transparency, Cost Containment and Accountability Act." was passed this year for just this sort of abuse. DO NOT PAY suprise medical bills, they may not be your responsibility.

EDIT: October 15th: I called Monmouth Med as they asked me to in response to this review. They took my information and haven't called me back in a month.

Shame on them for contracting with Pediatrix. Look at Pediatrix's on the BBB website. They are a horrible company and are ripping off parents all across the country with this same scam. The insurance company won't help because they just pay them the out of network rate and that's that. The hospital doesn't care because they have to meet the state requirement to have newborn baby's hearing checked, so they farm it out to Pediatrix and just have their boilerplate disclaimer that "the contractors in the hospital may not be covered". So Pediatrix just sends you the bill for the "remainder" and let's you know they'll be kind enough to "settle".

Pediatrix a racket and Monmouth Med should be vetting the companies and groups they contract with.

Edit April 11 2019: Still have not heard from Monmouth Med, all these months later. I will continue to update this when I know more. Insurance company is still fighting with Pediatrix who want more money for their uninformed treatment of my newborn. If you have your baby here (great L&D staff) DO NOT let Pediatrix touch your child. They are vultures. Mon Med should cut ties with them, they are making such a good L&D look horrible by association.
