My name is Linda Cobb and I hope my story can help at least one person affected by breast cancer, neuropathy, and diabetics.
In 2007 I had a double mastectomy, transflap reconstruction and lymph node removal. From the chemo I have several long term illnesses. The major one being diabeties. I was told in January that my levels were at 7.9 and I would have to go on insulin and lose weight. I was 237 pounds. I was having trouble exercising because of the neuropathy in my feet and hands. I was determined however, that I was not going to stick a needle in myself everyday! My nurse practitioner, Diane Payne referred my name to Androscoggin Home Health. AHM helped me with diet information and referred me to Linda Sherman at the Y.M.C.A. That was one of the greatest days of my life! I was offered a scholarship to attend water aerobics and the ability to exercise at several different times throughout the day to meet scheduling demands. Not only did the water aerobics help but the socialization did wonders for me also. I am now 207 pounds and my sugar levels are at 6.4. I am a diet controlled diabetic now! I can never thank the Y.W.C.A enough for helping me through this recovery journey. Your organization will always be in my thankful prayers!
