Allerthorpe has become our favourite day out on hot days over the past couple of years. Being inland, it's usually a couple of degrees warmer than the beach. The admission price for a car allows you to use the two paddling areas, one of which is deep enough for swimming in places, the park and the woodland walks. You could get almost a full day out of that with a young family. As we have a teenager, we tend to rent a paddle board and a couple of kayaks for an hour as well as going in the paddling areas. The lake is pretty deep in the middle and good for swimming if you fall off your paddle board. The staff are very polite and helpful. The last time we went, we forgot our sun cream be and the people at reception lent us some of their own when I asked if I could buy some.
