OMSI.......the place with all the science and history and EVERYTHING for a person to explore. I was surprised by my daughter and grandchildren with a trip to OMSI.....specifically to see the King Tut exhibition. We drove up from Dallas and arrived at 4pm. I have always loved archaeology and Egyptian ancient history....like many a girl dreaming of being an exotic Egyptian princess along the lines of famous Cleopatra. I can't claim to be a history buff, but archaeology has always held fascination for me. So imagine my thrill to be surprised with this wonderful treat! Now imagine my disappointment to be told by OMSI staff "The King Tut exhibit is all sold out"! There was still a hour and a half before closing, yet the exhibit was closed....even to members of OMSI. We were told the exhibit is still there until the 27th of January...."we could come back". Granted, the exhibit has been in Portland for almost three months. But for me and mine, work, health, and other committments have made it difficult to come before now. There are other things to see...and we were somewhat appeased by our purchase of a video of the exhibit....but nothing can replace the thrill of seeing, even maybe smelling or touching the history of pieces of the past thousands of years old fashioned by people who lived those many, many years before. I don't know if I will ever again get the opportunity to see these precious bits of a slice of history, but I hope so. Next time, if there is a next time, maybe someone at OMSI will tell us when we call for hours to view an exhibit that there is the possibility it could close earlier than the stated hours; that only so many tickets are available per day (if that was the case today); whatever the reason might be...advance notice could have saved the disappointment of four grandchildren, a wonderful adult daughter, and one "Princess of the Nile".
