I stayed here for nine days due to chronic lower left quadrant pain (pediatric). After the fourth day of admittance, they had no idea what was going on. They labeled me as an eating disorder with no obvious reasons. I had lost weight due to the pain I was experiencing, and I had tried to explain that to them numerous times. I love food. I am an athlete being scouted for colleges. I can not afford to play around with my nutrition. However, Dr. Zucker, the adolescent specialist, didn t want to hear anything about that. The doctors were not concerned as to how I felt or the history that I was giving them. Dr. Zucker was extremely dismissive; she said I ve been doing this for 28 years; I know what I m talking about , in regards to us discussing my weight loss. Furthermore, I had numerous specialists come into my room. The specialists would tell me one thing, and the pediatricians would walk in and tell me another. When I asked questions, they implied that I was incapable of understanding what was said to me. That is impossible. When the cardiologist was in my room, our conversation was very straightforward. Ultimately, he said that he was not concerned about my heart function, and he was comfortable sending me home. The next day, the pediatricians contradicted their own specialist. At this point in my care, they had put me on their nutrition protocol. This consists of: constant observation when eating and the hour after eating, ten minute supervised showers, blood work every morning, blind weight taking, and eating a mammoth amount of food. The meals would often include two entrees with three to four sides and a drink. These meals were three times a day along with two snacks. One snack was in the afternoon and one in the evening. The portions were out of control. My father would serve himself this portion. I am a sixteen year old girl. Over the course of this, I was constantly screened for an eating disorder. There s a study showing that when you interview a child and ask them the same questions, 58% of them will conform their answers to what the interviewer wants. They were fishing for me to say I had an eating disorder when the situation was fully fabricated. Overall, the pediatrician staff is arrogant and unprofessional. I hope that no child has to endure the care that I had to. It was humiliating and spirit crushing. Lutheran General is a great trauma hospital, but if you re going there for something chronic and unpresenting, expect the worst care you could possibly receive. Although there aren t many children hospitals in the Chicago area, take the drive and go to Lurie s. Ultimately, I was transferred to Lurie s due to the constant lying and degradation of my character. Avoid this hospital if you can. The specialists are phenomenal. The nurses are phenomenal. However, if your pediatricians won t listen to either of those parties, it doesn t matter how good they are. Your care will suffer.
