I took my son to Bayshore ER last month because he fell down the stairs and cut his chin. We waited for more than an hour to be seen by a doctor and the consultation was less than 5 mins, then after another hour of waiting, we were sent to a plastic surgeon's office about 15 mins away to get stitches. Not a single test or procedure was done in the ER on that day. Then I got two bills, one for the doctor service at the ER and another big bill of $1100 from the hospital ER. I called the billing service and asked about what that $1100 was for since my son did not received any treatment in the ER that day and that was already a separate bill for the doctor. The lady answered it was for using the ER facility and the ER is expensive. And she told me I could not argue about it. It is just unbelievable that the hospital can just charge you whatever amount just by walking into it without telling you. And all we did at the ER on that day was a less than 5 min consultation (which was covered by a separate bill) and a bandage (which I needed to pay extra $23 for as well) and more than two hours wait. It is impossible and totally unfair that the hospital can charge me $1100 for just sitting and waiting in the ER.
