Killed Our Baby!

Killed Our Baby!
We took Cara, a native Australian Currawong to the vet from Daylesford at 9pm with a cut wound on her leg. It was very hot and a fly had laid its eggs in the wound which had hatched into tiny maggots. We wanted that to be treated ASAP.
We had hand raised her from a small fledgling after she had fallen from her nest. We co-parented her and fed her with her parents that would fly down and visit her in the day and at night we would keep her inside. We live on a big property with a portion of the land registered as wild life sanctuary. It is a haven with beautiful big trees and a lake. Teeming with wildlife. She had an incredible life being a free and wild bird to come and go as she pleased, while also being a close friend and companion. She had a vibrant personality and was a fighter.
The vet reassured us that she would be given the best care and attention. They would keep in communication with us and ensure they did everything to ensure her survival.
We stayed in the city to await news. We weren t allowed to register her under our name as she is technically wild life. Not an imported pet. Then because she couldn t move her digits (toes) they decided to euthanize her.
There was no phone call, no consultation, nothing!!!
We would have taken her ourselves and cared for her if we had known they would just kill her instead of even trying to heal the wound.
We are absolutely devastated and horrified with how this was handled. Nothing we do now can bring her back, but this system is incredibly flawed and broken.
Absolutely disgusting.
