Important Note: Scattered Acres does not rent horses to customers.

Northern Virginia is horse country. You can find dozens of places to ride around northwestern DC. However, finding a facility that can offer as much as Scattered Acres and Autumn Rae, the owner and lead trainer, will be hard to do. From riders on their first time on a horse to seasoned competitors looking to advance to the next level, Scattered Acres has it all. A huge indoor, all-weather riding facility, an outdoor riding ring, a cross country course and multiple barns offer a rider everything needed to experience these wonderful animals. My daughter had ridden for 6 years before arriving at Scattered Acres, but not until she started taking lessons under Autumn did we both realized that the previous barns had been nothing more than drive through pony lessons. Autumn brought my daughter along a course of enlightenment and maturity that few sports and trainers can offer.

Many parents live vicariously through their children. With horse riding, there is a little a parent can do but provide the opportunity. While the horse ownership route is costly, and even more so when walking the competition route, when you are a parent hoping to give the best they can to their children, this road that I have walked is one that I don't regret a single second. My daughter has become a strong and confident teenager who will take charge of her life and not accept anything less than her best effort. We would have never gotten to this point without Autumn s mentoring. It has been one of the most difficult but most rewarding experiences of my life watching my daughter overcome her own fears and succeed at levels I never imagined at the start.
