This park preserves one the bloodiest segments of a doomed battle, the sunken road. All along the trail are period structures (some with original battle damage), and carefully chosen period photographs depicting your current place on the battlefield. Excellent stories are written of, including that of Martha Stephens and endearing local matriarch, as well as General Cobb, blown apart just outside of her house. A superbly orated guided tour is led around the park at regular intervals, and seemingly free of charge. It's a reflective place to admire days gone by, enjoy nature, listen to some magnificent words, or to see first hand the site where so many gallantly fell.
