For my frequent trips to Canada from Santa Cruz, California, I always use SJC. It's my preferred airport. I could pay double for Uber/Lyft to take me to SFO (San Francisco), but that's a traffic hassle plus SFO is highly vulnerable to weather. There are frequent SFO schedule disruptions due to rain and fog. I could more likely get non-stops in SFO, but the SJC connecting flights are always cheaper. Of the SF Bay Area airports, SJC is least likely to suffer delays and cancellations due to weather. The staff and security people there are always courteous and helpful.
