I did a month-long photography internship in Tambopata with Fauna Forever and it was an amazing experience; Chris and Raul were very helpful in getting me ready for arrival, and once in Puerto Maldonado they made sure everything was as comfortable as possible for me. The internship itself was packed with about as many activities as I wanted to do- the rainforest is there waiting for you to take advantage of it, all it takes is getting out of that hammock and going out for a walk. I joined all the different research groups to help document their activities, went out 3-4 times daily (including night and early morning walks) for general photography sessions, and was able to work on a video project about leaf-cutter ants as well. Add to this the feeling of satisfaction after a hard few hours of machete clearing a field so that the local community can hold foot ball matches, and this internship provided me with unforgettable experiences. Where else can you stumble into a giant tapir in a clay-lick at 2 am? I recommend Fauna Forever to anyone searching for adventure and looking to learn more about what types of research there are and how they are conducted in the Amazon.
