We live in a very rural area, and this is the closest hospital to us. That being said, unless we have a true emergency, we will never return to this hospital. I'm an RN from Atlanta, living in Chadbourn now. I've been to small hospitals that exceeded my expectations. This hospital is NOT one of them. It's unfortunate that one must actually get to the point of "throwing a fit" and threatening to contact Joint Commission (a hospital's governing board) to get basic, proper care. My husband actually had sepsis (which Dr. Walters thought was diverticulitis, even after I told him I recognized the signs & symptoms of sepsis! I'd cared for many critical septic patients in my nursing career.) and I wanted him transferred immediately to New Hanover, in Wilmington. It took 2 days to get that transfer. I lost every bit of nursing professionalism in that 2 days. That's just 1 example. I was admitted twice, with similar outcomes. Never again!! One positive note - the cardiac rehab and physical therapy departments are excellent!
