It seems this place is trying to be 2 things at the same time: simultaneously upscale & affordable. They nailed the affordable bit - on a holiday weekend with AAA rates our room was around $70. At those rates it's no surprise they can't keep the place like it looks like was originally intended.
Approaching the hotel the exterior is interesting but the roof looks like it is in need of repair. The inside follows the same theme of tying to be well decorated but some of the upkeep is severely lacking. For example, if you're going to have a chandelier in the room the housekeeping staff needs enough time to dust them on a regular basis. Also, I'd rather have decent toilet paper in the bathrooms (and not the roughest 1-ply I've encountered outside of public school) than lovely bookshelves in the hallways filled with books not really intended to be read.
The pool was HEAVILY chlorinated and grimy, & the sauna was... non-existent. We headed down for the sauna only to find an empty room where it must have been once upon a time. We decided to try out the hot tub instead despite it looking more grimy than I was comfortable with right around the hot tub area. The hot tub was instead warmish since the air coming out of the jets was cool.
On the positive side - the continental breakfast, while not the best I've ever encountered, certainly exceeded expectations. Honestly, the conditions of the place are not surprising considering the price but if I'm staying at a place that inexpensive I'd rather it be simpler & clean than trying to appear fancy but being a little dingy.
