Went out for a drive and ended up in Hershey. I've been a Troegs fan for a while and had the chance to pick up some product when they were in Harrisburg but hadn't had a chance to visit them since they moved to Hershey. Needless to say, i was floored. Their Hershey plant far exceeds my expectations.
I didn't arrive in time to take a guided tour but the "tasting room" was open. I say "tasting room" because it is less a "tasting room then it is a beer hall right in the middle of the brewery (i mean production tanks are right behind the bar). After grabbing a brew from some very helpful and friendly bartenders i took the self guided tour. To be honest it was pretty cool. It takes you into the bowels of the brewery, past the fermenting, clarifying (i think i might have this one wrong), kegging and bottling lines (which was off when i went), quality control, and conditioning room. While small, each section gives you a pretty good view into the production in the area as well as an exhibit on the plexiglass as to what is going on. There is also a sitting area where you can just kick back and watch it all happen as well, with your beer in hand.
Let's get back to the beer hall, i mean tasting room. It's large, very large. Long wood bar, several long tables, a number of small tables, plus seating outside when the weather is good (which it wasn't on this trip, cold). Seems like there is usually about 7 or 8 beers on tap at any time, all in-house products, all their usual brews, plus the produced seasonal, and a small batch scratch. You can get samples for free and pay for pints.
They also serve food. They call it "The Snack Bar" but take any idea of a snack bar out of your mind because it's about to be blown. This is good upscale but reasonable priced bar food. I mean where do you find a snack bar the serves oysters on the half shell, which i ordered. Ordering is easy (they add it to your tab is you have one at the bar). They give you a buzzer to let you know when your meal is ready.
They have a store as well where you can get merch and product, but i didn't have the chance to check it out.
Great location, great beer, great service, only drawback, i wish they were open later.
