I was standing in my own driveway talking to my cousin a few weeks back. It was 830 in the evening, in the month of January. He was in his car and I was leaning in the window talking with him before his departure. When an officer turned on his lights and pulled up on the roadside. He started by yelling "WHAT'S GOING ON HERE". I said I'm having a conversation with my cousin what's the problem. The officer then accused me of breaking into the car that my cousin was sitting in. I said how can I break into a car someone is in and why on earth would I break into a car on my own property. My cousin then spoke to the officer to show that he was in the vehicle. I asked the officer again what the problem was if someone had called and reported a break in or what. The officer then replied no. He continued to look for reasons to harasse us and be on my property. Meanwhile I hadn't broken any laws and his reason of thinking there was a brake in was debunked and the officer should of left after that. Instead the officer continued to harassing us and asking for identification.
I gave it to him just to humor him and get this cop out of my hair. I'm rather upset about this because I had to let the officer violate my rights to get him to leave. He ran a check on us for warrants and finally left after harassing us for 15 minutes. I regret not video taping the incident. Because parma police do not have body or dash cameras. From now on I will be recording my interactions with them and posting them online. I don't like being treated as a criminal when I've committed no crime and I don't like them trying to trample my rights.
