Samantha Baise Review of Gingerwoods,

My husband and I booked Gingerwoods Event Hall for our wedding ceremony and reception. 12 days before the wedding, the owner (Mort) called to notify us he doubled booked our wedding day and that we could no longer hold our wedding at his venue. He was very apologetic, and he wanted to make it up to us. We were devastated but understanding as genuine mistakes happen to the best of everyone.
First, he offered us to have our wedding at his venue on a different day for free, meaning we would still receive a refund if I understood correctly. He also showed us a venue he was in some kind of partnership with, in which he could "forward" our refund to. Either of those options would have been beneficial to him. I believe he was trying to refrain from cutting his losses. We opted for a refund and asked him to throw in his bartenders. After asking several times, he sent us an email stating he would refund us, so we had something in writing. He held up his end of the deal on letting us use his bartenders, but 3 (THREE) months after the cancelation we have not received a penny of this refund he promised.
Even though he offered a refund on top of us using his venue for free on a different day, I am starting to realize we would have not received that refund and would then had no grounds to having rights to the refund since technically we used his venue, in the event we tried to sue him or what have you. I am glad we did not take him up on this offer.
We have called him on several occasions. He was quick to answering our calls after the first couple of weeks of the cancellation. However, as time went on, it was less likely to get in touch with him. He seldomly responded to text messages. I called him about a month after the cancellation, no answer. I left a voicemail, no response. My father called while we were out of the country and he answered. I am guessing he didn't recognize the number and assumed it was a potential customer. He told my father that my husband and I did not follow his instructions which was to print out his email, sign it, and deliver it to him. I, nor my husband, do not recall these instructions. I called him when we got back to the States and he did answer. He was cordial and polite, and requested that I respond to his email stating we agreed with his initial statement. I did so, and no response.
It is now 3 (THREE) months after the cancellation and we still have not received our refund.
I have filed a dispute in hopes to receiving my refund. If the dispute does not work out, I will be contacting a small claims lawyer. Considering we had a contract with him, in which was broken.
I was so nice and understanding and the owner took my kindness for weakness. I do not recommend this venue.
