This place is unique in a sense that it allows its clients ground privileges, smoke breaks and horticulture therapy. Living quarter are airy and spacious unlike dungeons you see in other places. Food quality varies, the better choices are in the main cafeteria where a patient can go with a doctors' permission. Other than that it is a behavioral hospital and should be treated as such.
P.S.
As for the staff, there are some good nurses and therapists but they r not in the majority. Doctors are fairly average, they will spend a minimal amount of time with a patient to have a check mark in the patent chart and make a plausible case for insurance. Their decisions seem to be affected by insurance coverage to a certain degree. So they will gladly keep a patient if there is coverage, others might be kicked out despite their medical needs. Social workers work like Henry Ford assembly line moving the case loads with a minimal time/ effort, don't expect much individualized attention.
Family members should keep close tabs on what goes on in the unit as to facilitate patient recovery and advocate for best treatment options. If a patient is stable, try to find a good therapist or a day program for your loved one. Carrier is a business, not a terribly bad one but still a business. You know where their priorities are. On the other hand, there are much much worse places.
