I paid for, and attended, the 8 week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in fall of Fall of 2016. I was terribly disappointed with the experience I received for a course that costs north of half a thousand dollars. First of all the instructions were completely unenthusiastic, and instead of describing and going over actual course content, much of the class was spent discussing people's "feelings" and "experiences" with the program. All the people who attended the program had a variety of anxiety problems, but I just found it really difficult to sit there and listen to someone complain how her boyfriend's cat jumped on her at 6 in the morning, woke her up, and that caused her "anxiety", which is when she proceeded to describe how she used one of the techniques in the program to calm herself down. That is a little more than pathetic. And obviously, going though a somewhat difficult period of time in my life, I could not relate at all to that kind of nonsense. I also feel that there was not enough context and background given for people who are new to mindfulness, and of course if the instructions had used class time more productively on actual explanations of core concepts and why were doing what we were doing, rather than having people tell ridiculous stories about how a household pet throws them into anxiety, this course may actually have had potential.
