We took my teenage sister in law to the ER with severe stomach pain, she couldn't even eat. The ER staff was great and very caring. They ran numerous tests but couldn't find any reason for the pain. She was admitted to pediatrics for observation and further testing. Let me start this part by saying that most of the nurses on pediatrics were very nice and good at what they do. The resident Dr's obviously didn't care and thought she was lying. We later found out that the resident Dr's didn't know as much as they thought they did. Nobody wanted to give her anything for her pain. The residents would tell us the Dr didn't want to give her anything stronger than tylenol. The Dr told us she approved stronger medications and put it in the file that it was as needed. When she needed it, we were told the Dr said she couldn't have it. After much arguing, the nurse checked the file and saw that she could have something stronger. My wife had to fight with Dr's and nurses for my sister in law to get the proper care, it was ridiculous. On multiple occasions, the Dr's tried talking us into her going home. They kept telling us that there's nothing wrong and it's all in her head. After 3 days of pain that got worse every time she tried to eat, they found what was causing the pain. They gave her the proper medications and tried to get us to take her home. She was still in severe pain. After more arguing, they kept her for another day and released her. She was still in severe pain but could handle eating a little bit. I have never has such a bad experience in a hospital. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the ER experience was good. We later learned that we could refuse the use of resident Dr's. If we ever have to go back to this place, you bet your ass that we are refusing resident Dr's.
