Tiffany Millen Review of Sutter health plus

I recently switched to Sutter Health Plus after 11 years with another HMO. This option was cheaper and appeared to be similar coverage. A friend highly recommended a local Sutter doctor who appeared to be accepting new patients so I enrolled my family of 6 and selected the recommended PCP. Today I called to get an appointment for my son for a vaccination. His girlfriend has an incurable disease against which he has never been vaccinated. The first available appointment was 10 months out. A doctor who can't see you for 10 months isn't really accepting new patients in my opinion. This is called 'bait and switch'.
Upon closer inspection, Sutter assigned 4 of my family to the doctor I selected and assigned two of my children to two different doctors without my knowledge. I now have to choose a completely unknown Primary Care Physician for all 6 of us because 10 months seems a little crazy to wait when my son could be exposed to an incurable disease and needs a vaccination. I called customer service and was told that all of their doctors in the HMO will likely have wait times of weeks or months. The customer service person refused to concur that 10 months was ridiculous so perhaps it is normal. I so wish I had never switched. If we have to wait 10 months, I'll be able to switch back to Kaiser before we ever get in to see a doctor with this Sutter policy.
