J. V. M Review of NCN Nottingham

I tried to sign up for a EAT course at NCN Clarendon as a very mature student and for a number of reasons I got the distinct impression that they were not being helpful in the slightest, but the main reason for my review is that they wanted proof of my CSE results from exams that I had taken almost 35 years ago at a school that is no longer a comprehensive from an exam board that no longer exist. Effectively they were asking for the impossible and although I offered to do an entrance exam to allow me entry onto the course and explained that I have ample vocational qualifications within my profession including an National Diploma they refused. How disappointing must it be for any mature student who is trying for example to improve their job prospects or their opportunities in life, and I sincerely hope that the governing bodies or grant contributors to NCN are monitoring how and why students are accepted and the grounds on which they are refused. Particularly as I was actually paying in full for the course, I wasn't getting it for free due to not being in receipt of any benefits. I was left with the clear impression that older students are not wanted. Fortunately after putting the phone down to NCN all of the next 3 smaller training providers I contacted, accepted me over the phone there and then, exemplifying the phrase that " every cloud has a silver lining "....
