Saw the Terracotta Warriors exhibit and thought it...
Saw the Terracotta Warriors exhibit and thought it was well worth the extra $13 we paid over the admission price. The exhibit describes the excavation of thousands of these detailed, Chinese figures and the process of figuring out how and why they were made. Numerous displays and lots of interesting artifacts. Highlight: A room with numerous warrior replicas set up so you can feel what it was like at the excavation site.
The museum has many interactive exhibits which are interesting, especially the healthy living exhibit which has a fun drive-thru restaurant window where you pretend to be a customer or a fast food order taker and inform people about calorie counts and nutritional info from printed scripts. Great place for families.
Butterfly exhibit--Prepare to wait in line for about 15 minutes to get in. It's a separate room with all types of butterflies flying free in a tropical jungle-like area. Hot and humid but worth a visit just to take photos.
Planetarium show about Chinese astronomy: Very educational and interesting for everyone. Rin was our facilitator and made the show a lot of fun. Great for kids and adults. You have to plan ahead and get free tickets at the info booth.
The cafe--Seems like they put the cafe in a corner of a building as an after thought. It was plain and could use a remodel. I thought the food was good--lots of prepackaged items like sandwiches, fruit, carrots, hummus, hot dogs, chips and frozen yogurt. Prices were reasonable. There are a few tables outside where you get a nice view of the water garden area (picture a World Fair exhibition with high arches and a reflecting pond).
Personal favorite: The Gemini capsule with the audio recording of a launch. Fun place for two people to sit and pretend to be on a space mission. These interactive exhibits bring out the kid in you and make good memories.
Nice gift shop with the usual museum-related science items.
Thanks for reading this letter.
