If you're looking for quality care and fair pricing, look elsewhere. St. Francis overcharged me for an emergency room visit, and double-charged me for the same service. It's about $2000 just to walk in the door, I waited for treatment for about four hours. They charged me $500 for a tetanus shot. Pharmacy price anywhere else: $50. Centura charged me $700 for a tweezing something out of my hand, then they billed me $300 on behalf of the doctor who did it. In other words, I was double-charged for the same procedure twice. The entire visit took seven hours. I was left to sit there in pain for large amounts of time with little communication from staff. This was for a hand injury. I was never informed of the pricing until I received a bill. The Centura billing department lied to me about a payment plan. One person said they could only get me a $107 dollar a month plan. The other said around $50. I asked them to take the prices down to a fair amount, and the billing department acted as if that was impossible (it is, and I have negotiated prices before with other providers). I have a high deductible health plan through my employer, and St. Francis Medical Center, as well as Centura, took full advantage of it--inflating prices to exorbitant amounts that I had to pay out of pocket. In any other context, this kind of pricing and racketeering would be illegal. We intend to pursue litigation. Do yourself a favor and visit another, better healthcare provider who charges a fair price for decent services rendered.
