I went into St Francis ER this past Saturday at 3 pm in severe flank pain. I was triaged and IV d within 10 minutes. I then sat in another waiting room still in pain for two hours. It was getting more crowded there and we were told that all the beds were full. One woman in this waiting area was having chest pains, another poor lady had a bad migraine, and still another was so sick she was bending over in her wheelchair. Basically we were ignored.

After two hours of waiting in this back room area I approached the front desk in a wheelchair to ask how much longer it was going to be. I was told that they were very busy and that they had no beds and therefore I would just have to wait and go back to the waiting room. I asked someone if there was a recliner or a gurney because I was very uncomfortable and in severe pain. I was told, no, just go back to your waiting area . I then told my boyfriend to forget about it that I will go over to Penrose Main and I heard a nurse running over to me saying, I ll call the police if you go out of here without me being able to take out the IV . She threatened me for no reason. I never said I was not going to let her take out the IV, although I was headed to the door, it was a statement that I m in desperate pain and need action immediately. And then she told me she was going to call security on me if I was going to continue to make a fuss. I was then in tears pleading for a solution. To please help me.

As I proceeded to go back to that waiting area The same nurse said to me, I ll see what I can do. Go to to the waiting area and I ll meet you there . A few minutes later she comes in with a little bottle in her hand and some sort of needle device and with a peeved look on her face she says to me, You re lucky there is a Compassionate Doctor tonight who agreed to give you some morphine to decrease your pain . By the way, they finally took a cat scan 3-4 hours after arrival and I was diagnosed with a Kidney Stone.

I have never received such inhumane, insensitive, and rude treatment in my life. The clerk at the front ER desk seemed flabbergasted at the way the two nurses were talking to me. There were a few others in the wait area where I was staying that were also beeing treated very poorly and said they also will put in a complaint. This all occurred on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 between the hours of 3-6 pm. I have plenty of witnesses. I never received any apology from the nurse, however, to be fair I was treated very kindly once I was in the exam room.

While I was in the exam room my boyfriend was reading a paper on the wall that said ;
We care about our patients and will strive to make you as comfortable as we can through the ER process. To address your pain quickly . (Not Verbatim) but my boyfriend took a picture and I will repost the mission statement upon receipt.

And to put icing on the cake, the Registra was almost the first person to come in to the exam room for demographics and insurance information and requested a $75 copayment due immediately .

Sincerely
Ms Anderson
