I want to start off by saying that I am a physical...

I want to start off by saying that I am a physical therapist. My mother attended this place following her knee replacement. Unfortunately she lives 2 hrs from me so she was not able to attend the clinic I supervise. I was absolutely horrified at her evaluation. The therapist spent very little time evaluating her knee and did not discuss a plan of care, or my mother s goals for treatment. Elana, the physical therapist who evaluated her and owner of the clinic was constantly interrupted during her pitiful eval. The therapist did not even take girth measurements to monitor swelling over the course of her treatment and no strength measurements were taken on initial evaluation. My mother is an extremely active downhill skier and cyclist and her goals for rehab were to get back to these activities. When I question the treatment plan I was told that this was their protocol and it has been very successful. When we left I begged my mother to go to another physical therapy place, but she was reluctant to change and my biggest regret is not being more forceful for her to change. We had her second follow-up with the surgeon who is extremely unhappy with her lack of extension and flexion, as my mother on her first follow-up was making excellent progress. When I questioned my mother I learned that she had had several different therapists, no one had re-educated her on her exercise program on each visit, and they had done very little manual therapy to improve her motion. She often did her exercises by herself without the guidance of the physical therapist. One of first things I requested at her initial appointment was that she stay with the same therapist as I understand continuity of care is a major factor in a patient s rehabilitation. We are now looking for another clinic. Do not go to this clinic, as they are an embarrassment to the field at physical therapy.
