Dr. Malik and his team were wonderful during a very emotional and difficult time. Our 11 year old lab feel ill over the long weekend and we took him to Veterinary Emergency, Urgent Care & Referral Clinic of York Region. From the very beginning the technicians and vets were very honest in what they believed was the prognosis and what tests needed to be done in order to confirm their suspicion. Turns out our beloved dog had cancer that had metastasized. Dr. Malik reviewed all our options (including euthanization). He spoke openly about his thoughts on proceeding with surgery and was honest about the success rate given the condition and age of our dog. We had to make to the heart-breaking decision to put him down. All the staff were very caring, compassionate and sympathetic during this time. Dr. Malik offered a private room that we could use for as long as we wanted to spend our final moments and say our goodbyes. About 30 minutes after we got home, we got a call from the clinic asking if we had gotten home safely. A few days after that we received a sympathy card from the clinic - small, personal touches that had a profound impact and showed that they really care about their patients and the families they leave behind. Our dog was an amazing dog and an irreplaceable part of our family. Dr. Malik and his team made this difficult and emotional time a little easier and for that we are truly grateful.
