**UPDATE FYI a manger from corporate refunded one night s stay. :)

The experience here made it hard to believe I was staying at a hotel with the Marriott name. I arrived Friday night looking forward to a nice getaway to Charlotte for a friend s wedding and having my sister & her spouse join me the next day. I told the kind lady at the desk that I d have guests joining me. She happily said just let us know if you need a rollaway bed. Perfect!
The renovations/construction was the least of our problems. Incompetence instead abounded. It seemed this place was run by novices; workers were repeatedly confused, unsure, or didn t even try at all. First, our phone did not work. After driving with 2 kids from Maryland, we attempted to order room service but HAD TO DO SO FROM OUR CELL PHONE. We told front desk this; they said, oh your phone s not working? , transferred us to the kitchen with NO OFFER of a replacement phone. The room service guy left the cart in our room, so as we re eating, we get a knock, open the door and in walks a woman who says, Oh we need that cart back. Sorry that guy was new, he didn t know. Fine, no big deal...
Next morning, I discovered our shower had no pressure. Turned to full blast, the water dropped out causing me to have to stand right underneath and hope to rinse. I went down to ask if my family could be moved to a different room; the lady at the desk went back to ask her manager, who simply said, No, without offering an explanation or any kind customer service words. The original lady returned and tried to offer some alternative saying, um we can t move you but we can send maintenance up to check it. When? Uh Maintenance usually comes in at around 10 on Saturday. (Around 10? Nothing exact I guess...ok.) I reminded front desk of my non-working phone as well.
Maintenance came and fixed the shower, finally bring a replacement phone...which came after a separate maintenance guy had already come in to fix it, but that message never got relayed to this maintenance guy.
Saturday night, we TRY get the rollaway bed. We call down at 10:30 tired, & are told the rollaway will be right up. After about 35 minutes and no bed, I call again. This person says, Well I just got here, so you need a rollaway bed? Really? After about 15 more minutes go by, we get a knock at the door. We open the door and ALL sit in disbelief as a worker PUSHES A BOX SPRING into our room! Stunned, my sister tells him that must be a mistake. He replies, they told me to get the bed from the 5th floor closet. This is all that s there. I ll be back with the rolling part. He returns with the folded metal contraption on wheels and only then realizes that what he d brought to us was actually NOT a mattress. He takes the box spring away with the promise of correcting the matter AND RETURNS WITH THE YELLOW FOAM PART THAT IS SUPPOSED TO GO ATOP A MATTRESS and hands it to us, saying, Now I got it! This is your piece that goes with that. WE BURST into disbelief-filled laughter so hard we could barely speak. Realizing his grievous error, this guy states, They keep sending me to different floors. I ve only been training a few weeks, I m getting used to supervising... We erupted into laughter yet again! This was a SUPERVISOR? At that point we knew we had no chance of having a pleasant stay nor a rollaway bed. He said he couldn t find anything else. We just said never mind.
Never in a hotel stay have I had SO MANY strangers in my room (the rollaway bed supervisor was like the 5th worker in there.)
So the 6 of us (my hubby, me, our two kids, & my sister & hubby) made use of the bed and pullout couch. Not the best for comfort but better than being on the street. So much for comfortable accommodating Marriott.
I usually hate leaving hotels but I couldn t wait to leave. Surprise! Couldn t even do that easily. Parking garage ticket didn t work. Had to leave my car at exit gate to walk back inside for a replacement ticket. I traveled too far for such a horrible experience. Do I not deserve a refund? Something? Go elsewhere.
