After my mother passed away in July 2012 and I had later sold her house, I wanted to get a refund for the propane that was left in the tank. I was told that I would be sent a refund promptly. The refund I received was less than a third of what it should have been. I again called the gas company and they promised they would straighten it out, admitting they had made a mistake. After two more weeks of not receiving the refund, I again called the gas company and was told this time that my mother had purchased gas last year and hadn't paid for it. My mother always paid cash for the gas she bought. I had receipts for many, many years of her buying gas from this company. She had receipts for gas she had bought 3 times after when they claimed she had not paid for gas. I asked them that if that was the case, how come they continued to sell her gas with that unpaid bill hanging out there. They couldn't answer that and that is when I contacted the BBB. After them writing the first letter to the business and being ignored, the BBB sent another and this was answered with a full refund being sent to me. If it wouldn't have been for the BBB, I would never have received the refund for the gas. I give them lots of kudos for doing this!
