Every one requires that first "big break" to enter the industry of their hopes and dreams. A job that will allow them to go places.
Experience.
Sonal J. Shah gave me my first job in the wedding planning industry that allowed me to further my career in ways I never could have predicted. Also, she changed me as a person.
I am a Midwest girl that has only ever attended Christian weddings consisting of one day celebrations. I arrived to NYC ready to witness spectacular weddings! Sonal surpassed my dreaming. The third day on the job my new boss asked for my drivers license number: I'd be flying to Miami for our first wedding that upcoming weekend. She hardly knew me and she was trusting me to work the event by her side for four days. I witnessed a three day wedding celebration accommodating 350 guests with brunches and dinners that honored the bride and groom while hosting friends and family across the globe. From top to bottom, every event was absolute perfection and if anything happened to go wrong Sonal instantly found a solution. Most of the time, only her employees were aware of the change that concealed an issue that would have easily upset the bride. That's Sonal. She's like a fairy Godmother in the flesh, wielding an iPhone and a brain constantly working to accommodate her client's every wish.
During that internship, I've never worked so hard nor have I ever witnessed anyone work as hard as Sonal did. I'd arrive to work to e-mails sent at two in the morning. Regularly. Once, I asked her if she ever slept. She said, of course but if something needed to be done she would get it done, regardless of the time of day. The couples and their families mattered to Sonal. And I have no doubt each of them hold a special place, in her heart, today. A relationship and bond that was established by her creating a stress-free memory they can look back on for the rest of their lives.
A year following my internship, I was hired at a five star resort in Georgia. As I leafed through my "look book" of Sonal J. Shah weddings, the head of the department interviewing me began texting on his phone. Later, I found out he'd been messaging my future boss to let her know he'd found their next wedding coordinator. All because Sonal gave me that first big break into the industry.
Thank you Sonal. Keep blessing your couples with the devotion I witnessed firsthand.
