This was my second visit to the restaurant, the first visit was pre Renovation. My first experience cost my wife and I over a $1000 and was worth every penny. More recently we invited a couple to join us, assuring them that this would be the most memorable dinning experience of their lives. The experience was memorable but for the wrong reasons.
The staff; Positive notes first, the staff, without exception were wonderful and reminiscent of the Alenia that I remembered. Unfortunalty things went steeply downhill from there.
Presentation; There were a few interesting features which we enjoyed. I will spare you the details as I don t want to spoil it for anyone that will be going to the to the restaurant. Overall however, this was a huge let down compared to my previous experience.
The food; Some of it was great, the rest not so much! Lots of fluff like fancy plating and reconstructing foods so that they looked like something different ( again I m being vague as I don t want to spoil anyone s visit). This would have added to the experience had the food been better. Quantity was light to say the least, for $500 a head I would have expected to walk away full. The choices for the wine pairing were perfect however, the volume of wine was scant and there wasn t enough time between glasses to properly enjoy the pair.
In summary, I was very dissapointed with my dining experience as were my guests. I am shocked that Michelin has assigned the new Alinea 3 stars, perhaps the Michelin folks should go back for another look, I know that I won t be going back.
