We are art museum junkies and have visited many of the great museums around the world. The SAMA is one of those "secondary" museums that is first-class in every way. While you want find many masterpieces, you will find noteworthy and comprehensive collectives, all well-curated. The museum is noted for its Egyptian art and antiquities but there's a tasty American art "room" as well. And all in a great repurposed set of buildings which was once Lone Star Brewing. Oh, and it's free on Sundays. The Marin exhibition is outstanding, and, for enthusiasts like us who often cringe at modern art, we find him very accessible (and he did lots of stuff in Maine). There is even a ceiling by Chihuly like the one in West Palm beach. I suggest you allow a solid 3-4 hours for your visit and include a docent tour if one is available.
