Ted Leever Review of A #1 Air
$2000 for a new evap coil on a new Lennox in 3 yea...
$2000 for a new evap coil on a new Lennox in 3 years after installed new? Sure the $1300 part was covered by the warranty but the labor - and the part is no use unless it s installed - was $2000. And that was after $1000 duct cleaning! A#1 Air should cover the labor too and go after Lennox to make it right with them... after all I bought quality to avoid this very thing. Update they credited my card back with $800... thank you... added one star! but that s still $1200 (+1000 for duct cleaning!) neither of which should have been... not after 2 seasons! The old one lasted 23 years ... folks make sure to get the warranty when buying new stuff made in China! Looks like you ll need it... And make sure it covers parts AND labor! The labor costs waaaaay more ! The strangest part was how sanguine the installers were about it. Almost as if they re bored by the shocked disbelief. He had 2 other evap coils in his van also from Lennox and also just a few years old. And they d just settled a class action suit for this very thing in 2016! Apparently they set up an electrolysis problem mixing copper with aluminum . Or something . I guess they did it again in 2017? I ll update you on what Lennox has to say for themselves . Weeee! Update 2 I contacted Lennox and they told me too bad labor isn't covered. There are thousands of similar stories on them. This is a VERY common problem and A#1 Air should WARN their customers! This was a very expensive unit precisely to avoid this very thing! The previous Lennox worked great for what --- 22/23 years? But now I'm stuck with 2 of these POS... I sure wish I'd checked them out beforehand, but as a previous owner --- I thought I had! Apparently the fan motors are junk too... and they're all made by the same factory in China. (can't verify that) so much for "saving money" buying quality. Seems the smart play until they start making them in the USA again is just to buy the cheapest thing on the market and get the warranty. You're not buying it you're renting. The brand names are meaningless now. It's sad, from a Texas company HQed here in Richardson is just a veneer over Chinese junk. It's maddening. Get the warranty and make SURE it covers labor! You'll need it. Anyone know a lawyer willing to go after Lennox for punitive damages on contingency ? They KNEW they had this issue.
