I did my initial matwork teachers qualification with Body Control (level 3).

This initial training was good, interesting, challenging and on the whole prepared me to teach Pilates. However, I would only rate the rate the initial training as 4 / 5 though for two reasons:

Firstly, the assessment process was very subjective and inconsistent (as other reviewers on here have pointed out).

Secondly, since qualifying, I've realised that a level of detail as to why certain exercises are beneficial was missing. Simply telling clients that they should do X exercise because it mobilises Y joint isn't enough. Instead, being able to describe how the overall body works as a system and how a specific exercise helps to make it work more efficiently is necessary.

After qualifying, I subsequently became a member of the teachers organisation ran by Body Control. I have now left.

I would rate ongoing membership of Body Control Pilates teachers association as 1 / 5 for the following reasons:

2. The assessment process for CPD courses is also subjective and inconsistent, even more so than during the initial training. This is something that comes up time and again when I chat to other teachers doing the ongoing training

3. There are many other training providers out there offering more interesting and relevant courses for movement teachers. There is also equal or better content to the Body Control courses online for free or at a fraction of the cost of a Body Control course

4. Body Control senior management do not acknowledge, accept or act upon poor or constructive feedback

In summary, for initial training Body Control are a fine and good choice. For ongoing development though, you re better off managing your own training and not becoming a member of The Body Control Pilates Association in my personal view.
