My dad recently stayed on ward L15. Surgeons were fabulous. Ward was unclean...meant to have a deep cleaning every Monday but in the 5 weeks dad was in we never saw this happen. They can't get hold of the equipment they need...dad waited 4 days for a vac pump after his operation and it transpired the delay was due to inexperienced staff not knowing where to get one from! Many inexperienced and agency staff who don't seem to know what they are doing/don't seem to care. Can't get to complain as left message for matron Fiona White to call me twice but she ignored the messages and didn't call me back. Communication dreadful as didn't know half of the time what the treatment plan was for my dad...felt helpless. They were so busy they even had to start putting two patients in each side room which is only meant for one patient!. To top that all off there's a ghost on the ward that kept coming into dad's room on a night and when he mentioned it to staff they all knew and had seen it...how about getting someone in to get rid of it then? In my opinion that ward needs a strong matron to get a grip of the running of the ward, she needs to be accessible and make her presence felt more/be visible on the ward. In my opinion that ward is a disaster waiting to happen. It is such a shame as the Surgeons do a sterling job but the aftercare is then appalling.
