This hospital was truly a nightmare experience for...

This hospital was truly a nightmare experience for my 79 year old father for numerous reasons. My father was at a physical therapy/rehab center and against our instructions he was sent to Clara Maass. The doctor assigned to him to would not return our phone calls, in all the time my father was at the hospital we spoke with the assigned doctor only twice, for a total of no more than 10 minutes. The night my father arrived at the hospital no one contacted my brother or I, both which have medical POA for my father who has severe memory issues. The following day we tried to get information as to how he was doing, and we were only able to speak with a very rude nurse who would not give us any information. In a very brief call with the assigned doctor the following day, we were told my father would be discharged the same day. At around 2:30 PM I received a call stating my father would be released back to physical therapy at approximately 5 PM. Then at 9:30 that night we receive a call stating my dad is being transferred to the ICU. We try to reach out to his assigned doctor, does not return calls for the remainder of my dads stay. We repeatedly ask for a specific form to be filled out regarding post hospital treatment, all we get is excuses and the run around. The patient experience telephone number is a total joke, as it goes right to voicemail and no one returned my calls. It took several irate calls to a nursing supervisor to finally get some information and I was promised a call back by 2 directors of the patient experience staff, neither who ever called me back. Everything about my dads stay was just frustrating in having to deal with people who clearly didn't care, return phone calls or offer assistance when needed. For these reasons, I would avoid this hospital whenever possible. Our whole experience with them was a total disgrace.
