This resort has the best access to the Great Barrier Reef. It has dive/snorkel trips to either the inner reef or outer reef every day and the staff deliver a great experience. The snorkeling immediately off the beach is the best I've seen at any place I've ever stayed at. The also have private beach dropoffs where you can spend the morning or all day alone on your own beach.

The food is included and is spectacular. The chef provides custom menus if you have specific dietary requirements. Every meal was excellent and the included wine/alcohol is very good. The extended wine list is pretty good with a couple of Grange bottles available for the truly dedicated.

The rooms are air-conditioned and perfect with a view of the beach and a back deck that is 10-20m from the sand.

The swimming pool is nice and is next to the TV/internet (AC) room so there is wifi access to the satellite downlink they have. Connectivity is sufficient for email and news-reading, but when shared with even 5 people, can bog down.

We visited in mid-March and while summer was winding down and also in the rainy season, we saw sun nearly the entire time (>80% sunny) and experienced 10 minutes of rain in 5 days.

Lizard Island Resort is expensive. The flight RT from Cairns is about an hour and costs $500/person but is quite comfortable (15-passenger Cessna 208b Caravan). With that,
this is the best place I have stayed at in my life.
