For a little over 15GBP, the park is an amazing place to spend an entire day. I definitely advise to plan a whole day to truly enjoy your stroll around the park and the various things to do and see.
I particularly advise people to go circa end of May, as that's when most plants will be in full bloom.
Although the cafe offers nice snacks, I'd argue a nice picnic is a better approach. You'll be able to stop and settle down anywhere anytime that way.
The park is beautifully kept clean, which makes it a better choice for picnics than most London parks.
Some areas are a little bit covered in goose droppings, don't let that put you off. And remember there are many nooks and crannies where you can settle for your picnic.
I find it always magical.
