The photo below is the enterence to the SS Great Britain. The ship has a wonderful history and shares the same designer as the Clifton Bridge, the designer being Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The ship was the largest longest passenger ship of its time. I believe it was also the one of the first iron built ships. There is a bit of a checkered history around the activities of the boat with many people believing it was used to bring slaves from Africa to England. The ship took only 4 years to build and it is truly impressive to see the detail in the construction. The ship builders of that time were more like artists rather than builders. Its strongly recommended to visit this ship and if you are preparing a visit to Bristol you really should read up on Isambard. His name appears in may places around the city and his designs are some of the most wonderful and daring of their time.
