This was probably the best experience I had in Japan. Don't believe those that say there is not much more to see after the lookout point at the crossroads up the mountain. Up the left path there is really beautiful nature amongst numerous little shrines all clustered and covered in moss in a way that reminds me of a Mayan temple (just what comes to mind). Go early enough so you don't get stuck on the mountain after sun down. Bring water and prepare for quite an exertion if you want to go to the top and down again.
