I applied for a loan with UpStart last month and the loan was approved through Kemba Financial since they re local to my area. I wish I d declined their approval. The approval itself came fast enough and the loan terms seemed fine so I accepted, but the process from there on has been an absolute nightmare. Kemba states that, if you accept and sign off on the loan terms by a certain time on a business day, the funds will be placed into your bank account on the next business day (or within 3 days at the latest if you don t sign off by the certain time listed). I signed off after the cut off, so I figured I d wait three days and the funds would be there. Not including the weekend, by the fourth day the money was still not in my account. I called their customer service line multiple times trying to get an answer, and after dealing with their phone tree over and over just to speak to a live person, I had about had it. I spoke to two representatives from different departments who took the first five minutes of the call to explain to me how long it would take for the money to appear, only for them to realize that my wait time had indeed passed their advertised three day mark, and then they each scrambled with trying to explain what the problem could be. Neither were able to give me answer but assured me the funds would be in my account by close of business. They weren t. I called back the next day, dealt with their nightmare of a phone tree AGAIN, and spoke with a very helpful representative who did her very best to figure out the problem. It still took nearly an hour before an answer was reached and I was irritated because I had applied for this loan out of an urgent need and was starting to worry I wouldn t have the funds I needed in time. Finally got that all squared away, the funds turned up, I made my first payment ahead of my due date on the loan, and thought that would be that until February. Just checked my account to see that in spite of me having already paid my balance for the month Kemba took out a second payment from my linked bank account without any notice. Nowhere in any of the papers or online files I signed did I agree to have automatic payments set up. I had already paid this month s amount, and am now double that amount short in my bank account because I wasn t expecting them to remove the amount AGAIN after the balance this month was already taken care of. At the very least, a heads up email would have been nice so I could make changes to the withdrawal before it happened. I m just damn lucky I had extra funds in my account or I d have been screwed for this month s bills. Kemba feels like an absolute scam and as soon as this loan is paid off I will not be looking back.
