A beautiful zoo with large, natural-looking habitats for the many different animals. Tickets aren't cheap but they are definitely worth the money; just make sure you go early and plan to spend several (as in 3-5) hours there. Two other pluses: parking in Balboa park is free, and you can leave and reenter the zoo as many times as you want on the day of your ticket.
