Known to locals as one of the few places downtown that does not lose power when everything else does in big snowstorms.

Deciding to stretch our legs and get out of the house for lunch, we walked down to the Works on a Sunday afternoon and were relieved that we managed to hit it during a not busy but steady time. The outdoor seating was populated, but we snagged the last remaining of the four outdoor tables.

We ordered a sliced cold smoked kosher salmon sandwich without onion on multigrain bread; and ham, cheddar, and apple panini.

The cold smoked kosher salmon sandwich without onions on multigrain bread was what you'd expect rich, and the cream cheese spread perfectly balancing the oily texture and the salmony flavor topped with capers complimenting and adding a little zest to the mix. I was only able to eat half of my sandwich as it was so filling and brought the other half home to eat for lunch the following day.

The ham, cheddar, and apple panini must have been good as it disappeared rather quickly.

The customer service and quality are on the spot here, and I've never been disappointed in the near decade I've been coming here.
