I am a current tenant and my apartment was not renovated or fixed. I have been living here three years now and the apartment was rented to me "as is" by Sean the leasing agent. It had torn vinyl tiles in the kitchen which I had to re tile out my own pocket because Sean informed me the property managers we not going to do it. The kitchen was filthy, namely the stove and the refrigerator. I asked if all the grim and grease that was under the hood of the stove could be cleaned four days before I moved in and I was told "they would try". They did not, I cleaned it myself for over an hour with two applications of easy off over night. Under the sink had water damage stains which I had to obtain permission to use contact paper to cover the green and yellow mold and water stains because the lease stated tenants were not allowed to use contact paper in the apartment. The bathroom and mud room tiles are shifted and you can see gaps, the carpet was never cleaned, which was why I had to have Sean the leasing agent initial that I was not responsible for having the carpet cleaned when I moved because they presented it to me uncleaned and stained. The apartment is poorly insulated, and gets as cold a as an ice box during winter. I have to crank up the heat and pay a high heating bill just to stay warm as the heat seeps out of all the unsealed cracks and opening in the apartment.
The pipes freeze every winter, and the maintenance man they send to heat the pipes told me informed management that they need to add blown in insulation because he can see all the exposed space(an actual 18" hole behind the stove leading to the basement) and feel the cold air sucking out the heat, yet no fix has happened.
If a major issue arises they do have a fast response time of 6 hours or same day, but a renovated, clean, apartment I do not have. They patch things instead of fixing the problems permanently, which if you ask me cost more money down the line. The ceiling tiles are brown from smoke and when I asked for replacements for the ones that were chipped and torn it was discovered that the attic floor is collapsed in many areas and attempting to remove the dirty tiles results in large chunks of sub-floor caving in onto the already dirty carpet in my apartment. So I do not have a rosey apartment that was renovated, at the very least it should have been properly cleaned and it was not. It was a veneer cleaning to look good in open day light shining in so the pictures could be distorted to appear as a fresh home to move into. This is where I have the most issue with this company. The bait and switch of the photos to the actual apartment was a sign.
I was in a pinch and needed a place and they took advantage of that and used it to leverage not cleaning and properly fixing the apartment. Then when I had my cancer diagnosis I had to go thru rude and unsavory practices of showing up at my apartment with only 10 minute notice when I was not renewing my lease and looking to move. Lets not get started on their practice of having strangers parading through your apartment 3 to four months before your lease is up. With or without you being there. Or the disrespectful practice of texting you instead of calling you on your phone to ask if it is ok to come into your paid rental unit. I consider this company to be run by slum lords, nothing I have experienced while living here refutes that situation. They have on numerous occasions acted like they were doing me a favor by fixing their old rundown issues, attempted to intimidate me with a call from their lawyer when I informed them that texting me 10 minutes or even a hour before arrival was not acceptable and treated me like a number than a person. I pay my rent on time and the two occasions in three years which I was late by one day I paid the 50 dollar late fee with out hesitation or fuss. So if anyone other than Sean would like to speak to me you know where to find me on Ruth Street. 2nd floor. It is a shame what individuals who persevere themselves to be in a position of power treat others.
