Chet Cesolini Review of Sofitel Old Cataract, Aswan

Stayed here for 3 nights did a Lake Nasser cruise and then came back for a 4th night. If not for the visit to Abu Simbel I could happily have stayed at the Sofitel Legend instead of taking the 4 night cruise. The hotel is designed to relax you as soon as you enter with the welcoming staff, soothing landscaping and complimentary hibiscus juice. We stayed in the newer tower and enjoyed fantastic Nile views, incredible service and large, well designed suites with comfortably large terraces. Breakfast was exceptional with a nice variety of fresh fruit, salads, a good omelet station and many well executed Egyptian dishes. I especially enjoyed the fresh juice bar which included anti aging and energy mixes. The service throughout the hotel is top notch but Peter, in the breakfast area, deserves special mention for his kind remarks and attentive service. We also had the privilege to meet Shawky who calls himself a butler but is more like a front end manager. This gentleman was so gracious and helpful in all of our dealings with him that my wife and I looked forward to seeing him every day, a true professional who took great pride in his work and in the Old Cataract. If you are in Aswan please do not miss staying at this property it was one of the highlights of our month long stay in Egypt.
