For a Sonesta Resort, this is pretty bad. Keep in mind there are 2 other Sonesta resorts on the same premises however the "Sonesta Maho Beach Resort" is the the lowest grade of them all. The service is poor while food below average. The check-in process horrible and be aware that they will bump you off and put you in another room other than what you have booked. I found out the hard way later after reading other reviews that this is common. Sure enough an over in hour waiting to get into our room, this was the case with us - our room was not available. The rooms....subpar and below average. The smell of sewer in the mornings from bathroom horrible. Furthermore if you have kids beware of the constant strong odor of marijuana throughout room and adjacent balconies. Bathroom lights broken and canisters of Body Wash empty and never replenished.

Staff for most part cold and not warm/friendly.....as if they prefer to be anywhere else but doing their job. Poor hospitality. Restaurants always overbooked and lengthy waits with staff disorganized and lacking efficiency and coordination. Breakfast buffet limited and quality of food poor.

Overall maybe a good place for college students who could careless about all that is mentioned above and simply looking to get drunk & wasted. By no means a place for families. The pool is lined with plastic vinyl and filled with drunk adults. Beach tiny and guests who stay at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort are restricted to enter the other 2 superior high-end resorts that are nearby.
